There are conferences, and then there is the annual Deutsche FoxPro Users Group Conference in Frankfurt. The next one is German Devcon 2009 this upcoming November.
I think that the German Devcon is a sensational get-together, and is in many ways technically far superior to
DevCon. Here are the areas I consider the German Devcon to be peerless:
Access: Frankfurt is a direct flight from most major cities in the world...
Speakers: Comprehensive speaker evaluations and reporting tend to make the speakers and sessions very satisfaction and value-oriented.
Content: Usually over eighty sessions, in English and German.
Takeaway: The volume and quality of the materials presented to attendees, which are also permanently online afterwards.
Food: Sensational meals each day. (All three meals plus snacks).
Beer: Much of it free. (all of it very good)
Pace: 8 am to very late on most evenings. I've sat-in on some fascinating 9 to 11 pm (and beyond) sessions over the years.
Scale: The German conference takes over the entire hotel. The hotel is completely ours, rooms for everyone, it's wired, with delicious food, a workout room, good location with everything you might crave or care to do (walk, shop, eat-out, jog, slalom course kayak...) nearby.
Hospitality: Rainer Becker and the whole Deutsche FoxPro Users Group are most gracious hosts.
Roots: This conference is a user group effort.

I would go on to encourage the US and Canadian folks to check out the German Devcon. Many of the sessions are done in English and the airfare with discounts is very reasonable. The overall cost to attend would be less than the US DevCon and you get to spend some time in Europe. You get exposure to how VFP is being used in other parts of the world and an appreciation of the amount of talented VFP developers there are outside North America.

Having attended almost every Frankfurt DevCon as either a delegate (prior to 2000) and as speaker (since 2000) I can wholeheartedly endorse what the others have said. It is great value for anyone from the US or Canada who wants to have a genuine reason for visiting Europe and, being in November flights are really cheap.
You really don't have to speak German because most Germans speak English better than we do! and, since there is always at least one session (and usually two) in English in every time slot, you will always have a session to go to.

The German DevCon is a MUST VISIT for every developer interested in that littlebit more than "just" developing nifty code.
This year (2007) I had some really good input through the sessions of Steve Black on Niche Marketing and more.
Did you ever complaint like: "Geez' I wish a day had 48 hours..." well, in that case, visit "the 26 hour day" session by Marcia Akins.
Or for some good marketing strategies visit Doug Hennig's sessions, ah well, what can I say, see you next year then. I am already looking forward to this. I truly hope to see and speak more Dutch and English people there then. This DevCon is worth each and every Euro and more.
The binder itself contains SO much information that it will give you a year of study alone. And of course the CD, packed to the rim with gazzilions of info. For those who have never been there (yet), you sure don't know what you're missing!!
