Our third meeting will be on Tuesday, September 23rd 2003. The informal beginning of the meeting is slated for 6pm, and the presentation will start at 7pm.

"Part 1: More Advanced OO Design Pattern Implementations" by Steven Black

At the June meeting, Steve discussed one creational design pattern (Factory) one structural design pattern (Wrapper), one behavioral design pattern (Hook Operations) and one VFP idiomatic pattern (Invocation Stack Leverage). This month Steve will introduce and discuss several more design pattern implementations in VFP with illustrative examples and gotchas.

"Part 2: Object - Oriented Heuristics" by Steven Black

A "Heuristic" is a fancy word for "rule-of-thumb". In this segment, Steve will present and review dozens of such rules that are recognized to deliver better object-oriented designs, discuss their implementation in VFP, and whether the rule applies or not in Visual FoxPro, and why.

Hope to see you there!

Presentation Layer Finesse: A crash course in good website design for software developers

Presentation Overview:
The world revolves around the browser in this day and age, and it probably is no surprise that user interface design isn’t the same animal anymore. But who has the time to become a full-fledged web designer when there are so many rapid changes happening to technologies in the software development arena? This session will give software developers a crash course in good web design so that your browser-based user interfaces look polished without a lot of trial and error. Topics covered include an overview of best practices for web design, cascading style sheets and why we need them, how Java Script can make your life easier in the middle-tier, tools of the trade, and commonly found browser compatibility gotchas.
