Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) is used by Microsoft's Terminal Server and is based on the T.120 multichannel conferencing protocol. This is used in, among other places, the Microsoft Net Meeting videoconferencing product.
RDP is capable of encryption and compression. RDP is an upper-layer protocol and relies on transport protocols beneath. RDP currently only works on top of TCP/IP.
As opposed to Citrix ICA.
