SQL Role Types

Roles are abstract objects which define an actor in a SQL database. In other words a Role agregates users.

Roles are granted or denied permisions according to your security specifications.

There are three types of Roles that exist in SQL Server.

One of these types are predefined in the system:

The other two types can be created and defined by the DBA or programmer:

Database Roles
Application Roles
