Un Ream

Namespace: WIN_COM_API
System: workstations, web server, file server, MS SQL server. Most of the workstations Will only need a web browser, a few will need an app installed. Browser workstations can use a low bandwidth connection. The web server will need to accommodate many low bandwidth connections. The file server holds the application. SQL server holds the data.

Users: system admin, data admin, GF employees, brokers, joe web surfer.

The application will consist of the these tiers: UI, Business , data. There will be 2 UI components: a web based one for the meat of it, a local one for specialized tasks.

Some amount of data will come in from the feds each week. It will need to be touched up by a person. This will be done using the local UI component. Once the data is fixed, it will be available for general consumption.

The browser based component will allow users to view and update individual records; and view summaries (statistics, totals, etc). Reports will be sent to the browser as pdf files, which can be printed on printers local to the browser. Note: there is no provision for sending large amounts of data back from the browser (there shouldn't need to be.) Security will restrict which users gets what access.

What it does.
The company liquidates foreclosed residential properties. Once they "receive" a property, they maintain it and market it. Once it sells, it is no longer of any concern. "Maintain it" includes: hiring contractors to inspect it periodically, clean it, protect the windows, mow the lawn, pest control, etc. "Market it" includes posting it on a web page and accepting bids via e-mail.

Browser aspect of the project has been put on hold, or replace with a VFP front end. remote connectivity will be done over a VPN. If native VFP database engine is to slow over the slow links, thinking of 1. odbc connections to MS Sql server, or using dcom to talk to the data objects of VFE.
