This wiki's behavior is to automatically close most HTML tags at the end of a line. Why?
This is by design. There is really no use case in a wiki for tags to span paragraphs unless the use case is "By default, let the user wreck the page formatting from here downward".
Rather the rule is "Correct common HTML mistakes, like opening and closing tags that don't balance". Trust me, this is good.
Here's a list of tags that are automatically closed at end-of-line (i.e. paragraph) by the wiki parser: B, CODE, I, H1, H2, H3, FONT, STRONG, EM, SMALL, S, A.
For multiline source code use PRE tags. Use CODE tags for source inline with text. -- Steven Black
Also TT tags work well for inline code. -- Randy P
