Windows 32s was a bridging technology to support 32-bit applications running on a 16-bit version of Windows (versions 3.x).

Calls to 32-bit Windows APIs would hit a brick wall known as the "thunking layer" and be translated into 16-bit calls, processed, and results returned to the calling app.
