The top-of-breed word processor of the 80's, Word Perfect supported dozens of OSes and configurations. Free 1-800 telephone support was included in the astronomically high prices, but you get what you pay for. Based in Orem, Utah, Word Perfect was late to join the Windows bandwagon, shipping a slow and buggy product. Losing favor versus Microsoft Word, getting undersold on price, WP was bought by Novell and sold to Corel. Still a player in niche markets, their latest strategy has been to offer the product free for personal use, and ship a version for Linux. Time will tell if the product survives the year.
