Word Star was a popular C/PM and MS-DOS word processing program in the 1980's. It was ported to Windows too late to retain its market position, and was overtaken by Word Perfect. A fairly complete timeline is available (as of [2001.12.21] ) at http://www.wordstar.org/ -- look for the history link on the left side.
And a great way to edit code years ago - Word Star non-document mode!
WordStar lost much of its marketshare to Word Perfect long before Windows. Word Star was slow to adopt directory support when hard drives came along. Word Perfect never had a good Windows version as their developers were focused on creating an OS/2 version. In the same vein, Word Star didn't have a very good Windows version either. -- Craig Berntson
